Auckland gets a lot of rain, and it often arrives all at once. When spouting is blocked, sagging or leaking at the joints, that water ends up running down cladding, pooling against foundations or finding its way into walls and ceilings. Many of the 'roof leaks' we are called to are really spouting or flashing problems.

We repair and replace spouting and downpipes, reseal and replace flashings, fix leaks around roof penetrations and make sure everything drains to the stormwater system the way it should.

Pricing: quotes are free, and every job gets a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Gutter Repairs Jobs We Handle Across Auckland

  • Spouting repairs
  • Fix a leaking roof
  • Downpipe repairs
  • Flashing leaks
  • Gutter replacement
  • Blocked downpipes

Signs your spouting needs attention

Spouting problems are easiest to spot during heavy rain. Look for:

  • Water pouring over the front edge instead of into the downpipe
  • Drips or streaks at joints, corners and end caps
  • Spouting sagging away from the fascia or holding water
  • Rust spots or holes in older steel spouting
  • Damp patches on interior walls or ceilings below the eaves
  • Downpipes disconnected from the stormwater drain or discharging onto the ground

Repair or replace?

Many spouting problems are fixable. Blocked outlets can be cleared, sagging runs re-bracketed to the correct fall, and leaking joints resealed. If a section is rusted through or cracked, we can replace just that length to match.

Replacement makes more sense when the spouting is rusting along its whole length, when brittle PVC is cracking at every joint, or when it was never sized for the roof area it drains. We offer PVC and pre-painted steel options in common profiles, and can match existing colours.

Before recommending anything, we check the basics: that the spouting has enough fall towards each outlet, that there are enough downpipes for the roof area, and that brackets are close enough together to carry the weight of water and debris in a downpour. Getting those right often matters more than the material you choose. If you plan to add rainwater tanks, we size the downpipes to feed them.

How It Works

Roof and spouting inspection with photos
Blockages cleared and flow tested
Joints resealed or failed sections replaced
Flashings and penetrations repaired
Downpipes checked into stormwater

Flashings and roof penetrations

Flashings seal the gaps where roofs meet walls, chimneys, skylights and pipes. Over time the sealant cracks, fixings work loose and older lead or steel flashings corrode. Leaks around flues, vent pipes and solar water heater connections are especially common.

We inspect from the roof, photograph what we find and show you before we start. Typical fixes include replacing failed pipe boots, re-dressing or replacing flashings and resealing penetrations with products suited to your roofing material. When water shows up inside and the source is not obvious from the roof, our leak detection gear helps trace it.

What affects the cost

The price depends on:

  • Height and access: single-storey eaves versus two or three storeys
  • Roof pitch and whether scaffolding or edge protection is needed
  • Length of spouting to repair or replace, and material chosen
  • Number of downpipes and stormwater connections involved
  • Flashing work, especially around chimneys and skylights

Auckland conditions that are hard on spouting

Coastal suburbs from Takapuna to Howick see salt spray that shortens the life of steel spouting and fixings. Leafy older areas such as Titirangi, Mt Albert and Remuera fill spouting with leaves and pine needles quickly, which causes overflows in the first big storm of the season.

Many villas still have original box gutters and internal gutters that sit inside the roofline. When these overflow, the water goes straight into the house, so they need regular checks. Where downpipes discharge onto the ground, the water can soak clay soils near foundations, so we check every downpipe goes into the stormwater system.

Why Choose Cheeky's Plumbers for Gutter Repairs

Photos before we start

We inspect from the roof, photograph what we find and show you before any work starts, so you see the failed flashing or blocked outlet yourself.

Fall, brackets and downpipes checked

We check spouting fall, bracket spacing and the number of downpipes for the roof area, because fixing those often matters more than the material.

Continuous or sectional spouting

For long runs we quote continuous pre-painted steel spouting, which removes most of the joins that leak, and sectional PVC where that suits a smaller repair or budget.

Downpipes into stormwater

Every downpipe is checked to discharge into the stormwater system, not onto clay soil against the foundations.

Fixed price

The price is agreed before we go up the ladder.

Gutter Repairs FAQs

Do you clean spouting?

Yes, either as part of a repair or as a standalone clean. We check outlets and downpipes at the same time.

What spouting materials do you install?

PVC and pre-painted steel in common profiles and colours, including continuous spouting on suitable jobs.

Can you fix a leaking roof?

We fix leaks caused by plumbing: spouting, flashings, valleys and penetrations such as flues and vent pipes. Leaks from damaged roofing sheets or tiles may need a roofer.

How often should spouting be cleaned?

At least once a year, and more often if you have trees overhanging the roof.

Why does my spouting overflow even when it is clean?

It may be sized too small for the roof area, have the wrong fall, or have too few downpipes. We can check and correct it.

Is roof work safe in wet weather?

We work on roofs only when it is safe to do so. Urgent leaks can often be made safe from inside and finished once the weather clears.
