Post-war suburbs from the 1950s and 1960s across Henderson, Glen Eden and Te Atatū, bush homes in the Waitākere foothills, rural blocks around Kumeū, and new townhouses and apartments at New Lynn and Te Atatū. Auckland gets a lot of rain, and it often arrives all at once. When spouting is blocked, sagging or leaking at the joints, that water ends up running down cladding, pooling against foundations or finding its way into walls and ceilings. Many of the 'roof leaks' we are called to are really spouting or flashing problems.
West Auckland spouting and roof plumbing under bush, on slopes and for tank supply
West Auckland's mix of suburbs, foothills and rural blocks makes roof plumbing more varied than in most parts of the city. In the post-war streets of Henderson, Glen Eden and Te Atatū, homes from the 1950s and 1960s often have older spouting that has been repaired over the years, with rusted steel runs, loose brackets and downpipes that no longer connect cleanly to the stormwater drain.
In the Waitākere foothills, bush is the issue. Homes under native canopy collect a steady fall of leaves and twigs, and spouting can block quickly, overflow and send water down the walls or into the eaves. Leaf guards and regular clearing help, and we look at outlet sizes and the number of downpipes so the spouting can cope when it is partly full of debris. Where bush keeps a roof shaded, moss can also grow in spouting that stays damp, which slows the flow further.
Many foothill homes also rely on rainwater tanks, so the spouting is part of the drinking water supply. Debris that stays in the spouting rots and washes into the tank. For these homes we pay attention to fall, so water does not sit in the spouting, add leaf guards, and put a first-flush diverter on each downpipe that runs to a tank.
Steep sections affect access. A home perched on a slope may be single-storey from the road and much higher from below, and some roofs sit close to the tree line. We assess height and edge protection during the quote, and work on roofs only in safe conditions.
Near the harbour edges at New Lynn, Te Atatū and Hobsonville the ground is rhyolitic clay and peat, which can move, so we also check that downpipe connections at ground level are still sealed to the stormwater system.
Local tip: Under Waitākere bush, clean your spouting before winter and after every big storm, and fit leaf guards if your roof feeds a drinking water tank.

Gutter Repairs West Auckland FAQs
My Titirangi house is under bush and the spouting overflows every storm. Will leaf guards fix it?
They help a lot. We also check the fall, outlet sizes and number of downpipes, because spouting sized for an open roof struggles when bush debris partly fills it.
Can you fix a leaking roof?
We fix leaks caused by plumbing: spouting, flashings, valleys and penetrations such as flues and vent pipes. Leaks from damaged roofing sheets or tiles may need a roofer.
Is roof work safe in wet weather?
We work on roofs only when it is safe to do so. Urgent leaks can often be made safe from inside and finished once the weather clears.
