A dripping tap is easy to ignore until it stains the basin, keeps you awake or you see the water bill. Most tap problems come down to a worn washer, seal or cartridge, and they are quick to fix when the plumber turns up with the right part.

We repair and replace kitchen, bathroom, laundry and outdoor taps and mixers across Auckland. From the old two-handle taps in a villa bathroom to the latest European mixer in a new build, we diagnose the fault, source genuine parts where we can, and tell you honestly when replacement makes more sense.

Pricing: quotes are free, and every job gets a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Tap & Mixer Repairs Jobs We Handle Across Auckland

  • Leaking tap repair
  • Fix a dripping tap
  • Mixer cartridge replacement
  • Outdoor tap repairs
  • New tapware installation
  • Stiff mixer repairs

Tap problems we fix

The usual suspects:

  • Spout drips after the tap is turned off
  • Water leaking from around the handle or base of the mixer
  • Handle stiff, loose or hard to turn
  • Mixer will not hold a steady temperature
  • Low flow from one tap only
  • Leaks from the flexible hoses or connections under the bench
  • Outdoor taps that drip or will not shut off

Taps versus mixers: different fixes

Traditional taps with separate hot and cold handles use a jumper valve and washer, or a ceramic disc headwork. A dripping spout usually means a worn washer or a damaged seat; leaks around the spindle mean a worn O-ring or gland. These are cheap parts and quick to swap. Quick-closing ceramic disc taps and lever mixers can also cause water hammer, the bang in the pipes when you shut them off fast.

Single-lever mixers use a cartridge that controls both flow and temperature. When the cartridge wears, the mixer drips, gets stiff or will not hold temperature. The right cartridge is specific to the brand and model, so we identify it first. For common brands we often carry stock; for others we source the genuine part.

Not sure if it is a tap & mixer repairs job?Describe it in chat. We will tell you what it likely needs and what it should cost.

How It Works

Tell us which tap is leaking and the brand if you know it
We isolate the water and identify the washer, seal or cartridge
Confirm the repair price, or quote replacement if better value
Fit genuine parts, clean aerators and check hoses under the bench
Turn the water on, test for drips and leaks, and clean up

Repair or replace

We repair when the tap body is sound and parts are available. We recommend replacement when the body is cracked or corroded, parts are discontinued, the finish is failing, or the cost of a genuine cartridge comes close to a new mixer. Every new tap sold in New Zealand carries a WELS water efficiency label, so when you replace, you can pick one that uses less water without sacrificing flow. We also check the flexible hoses under the bench. They are a common source of sudden floods once they get old, and swapping them during a tap job is quick.

Pricing

Washer and O-ring jobs are at the low end. Cartridge replacements depend on the part, and new tapware depends on what you choose. We confirm the price before we start, and if you supply your own tapware we can install it, including as part of wider kitchen plumbing work.

Auckland tapware and water

Watercare says Auckland's water is generally soft, but even soft water can leave scale on tapware over time, and supplies from groundwater can be harder. Scale on a cartridge or aerator causes stiffness and low flow. Older homes with low pressure hot water often have mixers designed for mains pressure, which causes poor hot flow at the tap; we can check whether your tapware suits your system. After a mains pressure upgrade, older taps can start to drip because they are under more pressure than before, and a pressure reducing valve can fix that.

Why Choose Cheeky's Plumbers for Tap & Mixer Repairs

Model identified first

We identify the brand and cartridge before ordering anything, carry common cartridges on the van and source genuine parts for the rest.

Warranty claims made easy

If your mixer is still under the maker's warranty, we identify the model and help you claim the part rather than just replacing the tap.

Straight repair or replace advice

When a genuine cartridge costs close to a new mixer, or the body is cracked, we tell you and price both options.

Hoses checked while we are there

We check the flexible hoses under the bench on every tap job and swap tired ones, a common cause of sudden floods.

Price agreed before work

Tap & Mixer Repairs FAQs

Why does my tap keep dripping after I turn it off?

A worn washer or seat on traditional taps, or a worn cartridge in a mixer. Both can be replaced.

How much does it cost to fix a dripping tap in Auckland?

Parts such as cartridges vary, and we confirm the total before we start.

Can you fix my mixer or does it need replacing?

If the body is sound and the cartridge is available, we repair it. If parts are discontinued or the body is damaged, replacement is better value.

Can you install tapware I bought myself?

Yes. Check it suits your water pressure first, as some mixers are designed for mains pressure only.

Why is my hot water flow weak at one tap?

Often a blocked aerator or a scaled cartridge, or a mixer that is not suited to a low pressure hot water system.

Should I replace the flexible hoses under my sink?

If they are old, kinked, rusty or bulging, yes. They are a common cause of sudden leaks.
