A bathroom renovation lives or dies on what goes in behind the walls and under the floor. Get the falls, waste sizes, valve positions and waterproofing interfaces right, and the bathroom looks good for twenty years. Get them wrong, and you are pulling tiles off to chase a leak.

We plumb bathroom renovations across Auckland for homeowners, builders and designers. We plan the layout with you, rough in the pipework at the right stage, coordinate with the tiler and waterproofer, fit off the fixtures and provide the documentation the council needs where consent is involved.

Pricing: quotes are free, and every job gets a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

What we do in a bathroom renovation

Our scope usually covers:

  • Planning the layout and checking waste and supply positions
  • Stripping out and capping old pipework
  • Rough-in of water supply and waste pipes for every fixture
  • In-wall frames for wall-hung toilets and concealed cisterns
  • Shower mixers, valves and floor wastes or linear drains
  • Pressure testing before the walls are closed
  • Final fit-off of tapware, toilet, vanity, bath and shower

Planning: the part that saves money

Moving a toilet a metre or putting the shower where the bath was can be simple or expensive depending on where the waste pipes run. On suspended timber floors, which are common in Auckland villas and bungalows, we can usually move wastes underneath. On a concrete slab, moving a toilet or shower waste can mean cutting the slab. We look at this at the start so your design is based on real costs.

We also check the hot water system. A new rain shower is disappointing on a low pressure cylinder, so if you are planning one, the renovation is the time to look at a mains pressure upgrade.

Coordinate with builder, waterproofer and tiler
Fit-off fixtures, test everything and supply compliance documents

Compliance and consent

Much bathroom plumbing is restricted sanitary plumbing and must be done by a licensed plumber. Some renovations also need building consent, for example when adding new sanitary fixtures or changing the drainage. Wet areas must manage water under Building Code clause E3 (internal moisture), and drainage must meet clause G13 (foul water). Under G12/AS1, new plumbing to showers, basins and baths must limit hot water delivery temperature, which since the 2023 change is 50 degrees C in most homes. This is usually done with a tempering valve at the cylinder. We tell you upfront if your project needs consent and provide the plumbing documentation.

What affects the cost

We give a free quote once we know the plan. Plumbing costs rise with the number of fixtures, layout changes, slab work, wall-hung toilets and concealed cisterns, wet-floor showers with linear drains, hot water upgrades, and access difficulties such as upstairs bathrooms in townhouses with no ceiling space.

Auckland bathroom renovations

Villa and bungalow bathrooms often hide old galvanised supply pipe and earthenware wastes, and repiping while the walls are open costs far less than doing it later. Leaky-building era homes with monolithic cladding need careful detailing at any new wall penetrations. Newer townhouses often have tight service spaces between floors, where every pipe route needs planning before the builder closes up.

Timing matters as much as the pipework. We pressure test every supply line before the linings go on, and we check waste falls before the floor is waterproofed, because a fault found after tiling is the most expensive kind. If your bathroom shares a wall with the kitchen or laundry, we also look at whether the kitchen plumbing or laundry services can be tidied up at the same time.

Why Choose Cheeky's Plumbers for Bathroom Renovation Plumbing

Layout costed before you commit

We check how the wastes run, under a suspended timber floor or through a slab, at the planning stage, so your design is priced on real costs rather than discovered ones.

Level-entry showers set out properly

For wet-floor showers we set out the linear drain and waste and agree the floor falls with your builder and waterproofer, so the shower drains properly and meets clause E3.

Tested before the linings go on

Every supply line is pressure tested and every waste fall checked before walls close or the floor is waterproofed, with photos of the rough-in for your records.

Consent paperwork handled

Licensed, PGDB-registered plumbers do the restricted sanitary plumbing, we tell you upfront if consent is needed, and we provide the plumbing documentation for council.

Bathroom Renovation Plumbing FAQs

Do I need building consent to renovate my bathroom in Auckland?

Not always. Like-for-like replacement often does not, but adding new fixtures or changing drainage may. We tell you before work starts.

Can I move my toilet to a different spot?

Usually yes. It is easier on a timber floor than on a concrete slab. We check the waste route before you commit to a layout.

How long does bathroom renovation plumbing take?

The plumbing itself is spread across rough-in and fit-off, often a few days in total, but it depends on the builder's programme.

Can you build a level-entry wet-floor shower?

Yes. We install the linear drain and waste and work with your builder and waterproofer on falls and membranes.

Should I upgrade my hot water during a renovation?

If you want a strong shower and have a low pressure cylinder, the renovation is the best time to consider mains pressure.

Do you work with my builder?

Yes. We coordinate with your builder, tiler and designer.
