Dishwashers and fridges done properly

A dishwasher installation needs a cold or hot supply (check the manual), an accessible isolation valve and a waste connection that cannot siphon dirty water back into the machine. We follow the manufacturer's instructions on drain hose height and connection, and use proper spigots on the sink trap rather than improvised fittings.

Fridge water lines need a dedicated isolation valve and, ideally, a filter. Cheap plastic lines kinked behind a fridge are a common cause of slow leaks under kitchen floors. We use suitable pipe, leave enough slack to pull the fridge out, and test for leaks before it goes back.

Blocked kitchen sinks

Kitchen blockages are usually grease and food that has set inside the trap or waste pipe. Pouring boiling water or chemical cleaners down rarely fixes it for long, and harsh chemicals can damage older pipes. We clear the trap and waste with the right tools, and if the blockage is further down, it has become a blocked drain and we can clear that too. Wiping greasy pans before washing and using a sink strainer prevents most repeat blockages.

Under-sink waste pipes in 1970s and 1980s homes are often a patchwork of past repairs. When the cabinets are out, it costs far less to repipe these sections than to come back once the new kitchen is in, so we point out anything worth doing while access is easy.
