Gasfitting is restricted work in New Zealand. It is illegal for anyone to do it unless they are authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB), and that is for good reason: a poor joint or an undersized pipe can mean a leak, a fire or carbon monoxide in the house.
Our certifying gasfitters handle residential and light commercial gas work across Auckland, on both reticulated natural gas and LPG. Whether you are adding a gas cooktop, running a line to an outdoor fire, setting up a new LPG bottle station or moving appliances during a renovation, we plan the job, do it to the standard and leave you with the certification.
Pricing: quotes are free, and every job gets a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Gas fitting work we do
Most gas jobs in Auckland homes fall into a handful of types. If an existing appliance has stopped working, that is a gas appliance repair, and boilers and radiators are covered under hydronic heating. New work usually looks like this:
- New gas pipework from the meter or LPG bottles to appliances
- Connecting cooktops, ovens, fires, heaters and water heaters
- LPG bottle stations, regulators and changeover valves
- Extending or relocating gas lines during kitchen and bathroom renovations
- Outdoor gas: barbecue points, patio heaters and outdoor fires
- Capping off and making safe appliances you no longer use
- Gas pressure testing and safety checks for buying or selling a home
Why a certified gasfitter matters
In New Zealand, every gasfitting job needs a gas certificate, and the person doing it must hold a current PGDB licence. You can check a gasfitter's registration on the public register at pgdb.co.nz, and ask to see their licence card, which they must carry. Licences are renewed every year, so last year's card is not enough.
Using a certified gasfitter protects you in three ways: the work is done to the standard, there is a record of it for insurance and future buyers, and if something is wrong there is an accountable professional and a regulator behind them.
How It Works
Planning the gas supply
A gas line has to be big enough for every appliance that might run at the same time. Add a continuous flow water heater and a six-burner cooktop to a pipe that was sized for an old oven, and the appliances will be starved of gas when they all run together. We work out the total load, the pipe length and the supply pressure before we quote, so the system works properly on day one and has room for what you might add later.
What affects the price
The final price depends on the length and route of new pipework, access under floors or through walls, the number of appliances, whether you are on LPG or natural gas, and any new regulators or bottle stations. For anything beyond a simple connection we quote in writing first.
Gas in Auckland homes
Many Auckland villas and bungalows sit on suspended timber floors, which usually makes running new gas pipe underneath straightforward. Concrete slab homes and newer townhouses can mean routing through walls or ceilings instead. In areas without reticulated natural gas, LPG bottles are the norm, and where they go matters: clearances from windows, drains and doors are set by the standards. We plan bottle placement so it is safe, tidy and easy for the delivery driver to swap.
Why Choose Cheeky's Plumbers for Gas Fitting
PGDB-licensed certifying gasfitters
Every job is done by a certifying gasfitter registered with the PGDB. When the work is finished you get a Gas Certificate of Compliance for your records, your insurer and any future buyer.
Pipe sized for the full load
We work out the total appliance load, pipe length and supply pressure before we quote, so a new cooktop or continuous flow heater is not starved of gas when everything runs at once.
Isolation valves you can reach
We make sure each appliance has an accessible isolation valve and show you how to turn the gas off at the meter or the bottles, which matters most after an earthquake or a leak.
LPG bottles placed to the standard
Bottle stations go where the clearances from windows, drains and doors are met and where the delivery driver can swap them without fuss.
Fixed price before we start
Anything beyond a simple connection is quoted in writing, and the price is agreed before work starts.
